The following will help guide you through the requirements and expectations of Unit 1.

Student Learning Objectives

Unit 1

  1. Obtain a basic understanding of Florida's indigenous groups including, but not limited to, the Paleo-Indian, Archaic, and other cultures.
  2. Obtain an understanding of the early European Explorers in Florida, and explore the early colonial settlements and missionary activities in Florida.
  3. Obtain an understanding of how the lives of Indians and Africans in Florida were shaped by the various European colonial efforts.
  4. Obtain an understanding of the major changes during English occupation, including the American Revolution, and the return of Florida to Spain.
  5. Obtain an understanding of the origin of Florida as a U.S. territory, its experiences as a territory, and its evolution as a state.

Exam: There will be a Unit Exam at the completion of your studies in Unit 1. This exam will consist of multiple-choice questions. When you have completed the required readings, follow the link to "Return to Course Manager" and go to the Unit 1 Exam under the exam button. Follow all instructions.
